About Lemonade

Lemonade is a drink made out of three simple ingredients: water, sugar and lemons. It is one of the most simple, healthy and tasty drinks available. It’s rich in vitamins, for mom to be sure that her little boy or girl is not running around without a proper vitamin intake; it has sugar so the kids love it; and it’s very refreshing.

The simple lemonade is not simple anymore, it has a few variants depending on the geographical location it is made it. The European concept about lemonade is that it must be 'clear'. In this region lemonade used to be and is still made from unsweetened water or, in some cases, carbonated soda water. To this people add the lemon juice; almost always forgetting the sugar, but it is not a rule.

In the US, Canada and some Asian countries, they prefer their lemonade cloudy. This means that they drink it with water (uncarbonated water), lemon juice and sugar or some type of sweetener. Sometimes other artificial flavors are added to the drink depending on taste and if they prefer only lemon in their drink or would want a more complicated taste. In India they add salt and granulated pepper to their lemonade and consume it fresh.

France has a fizzy version of the lemonade. By fizzy meaning that it is actually a carbonated sweet lemon flavored drink. Citronnade is the term used for the usual lemonade that contains noncarbonated water. Similarly, in Germany only sweet carbonated soft drinks made with different type of citrus fruits are considered to be lemonade. In Australia, South Africa, the UK and New Zealand, they consider Sprite or Schweppes to be the closest thing to lemonade.

No matter which way you prefer your lemonade, or what region you come from, you can add anything to your lemonade and still love it.
